Concept

Off the Court will be a zine dedicated to showcasing our favorite Haikyuu! Characters, off of the volleyball court, with fiction and illustration. The zine is friendship-focused, with implied romance as the closest thing to slash.

Fiction will range from 3,000 to 5,000 words, and illustrations will be full-color, finished pieces. There will be a total of 36 contributors, from a combination of invited guests and selected applicants: 12 writers, 20 artists and 4 digital merch artists.

Specs

The ebook: Off the Court will be a digital zine, with no printed book. We did this for reasons pertaining to the COVID-19 outbreak, and felt we could keep this project simple & joyful in a time of uncertainty in the world. We plan to offer standard ebook formats as well (MOBI, EPUB), to make for a better fic-reading experience.

Bonuses: Stretch goals could include additional digital merch, as well as the small, small possibility of printing the book as a physical zine.

FAQ

Why digital? The interest check results showed that the majority wanted a physical zine.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the mods decided that a digital zine would be the safest option for everyone involved. We were not sure how the pandemic would affect all of the factors involved in creating a physical zine and merch, and we decided a digital zine would be our best bet for spreading Haikyuu! joy :)

How many contributors will you be accepting?

We will be accepting 34 contributors:
20 artists
10 writers
4 digital merch artists

What the heck is digital merch?

Digital merch is our way of still having merch! We will have our digital merch artists creating digital merch such as icons, emoji packs, and phone and desktop wallpapers.

Mod Team

Red - Head Mod/Finance Mod/Beta Mod
ViolentlyRed has written for numerous zines, including Ascent, Logical Outcomes, and Kokoro. She was a large part of the overhaul and successful shipping of the infamous doomed Aite Zine. Red has been involved in fandom since she was an awkward middle-schooler, and has been loving Haikyuu for just as long (she would die for chaos-lord Nishinoya Yuu). She is the project lead and will focus on editing, finance, check-ins and communication.

Suga - General Mod/Beta Mod
Suga has modded numerous zines, including Dragon Kirishima, Ikebana and Inotan. She has also participated as a writer in zines such as Chargebolt, Aite and Kokoro. Suga also has experience modding gift exchanges and fan weeks. Suga has been a Haikyuu!! fan since high school and stans a salty french fry named Tsukishima Kei. She is the general and organization mod, who will help in editing, maintaining the discord, and ensuring the zine runs on schedule, among other miscellaneous tasks.

Noël - Social Media Mod
Noël has participated in several events, bangs, and exchanges as a contributing artist. She currently mods for various zines, including Good Morning World: A Dr. Stone Zine, Thank You, Furuba, and High Rise: A Shiratorizawa Zine. Her positions have ranged from head mod to social media, general organization, and beta. Noël first sold her soul to Haikyuu!! this past October and has been a slave to it ever since. She relates to Sakusa Kiyoomi on a spiritual level and is a shameless simp for the Miya twins. She will be overseeing the social media and communications aspect of the zine.

She is also modding a sports animanga big-bang called Sportsfest.
